I must have bought dozens of flasks over the years. One or two have been excellent and a few have been useless. Things have of course moved on since the old days of those breakable Thermos type flasks, where the merest dink would shatter the insides. Fortunately today they are made from stainless steel and are virtually unbreakable.
Despite these obvious advancements, so many modern flasks fail to retain the necessary heat to keep your tea or coffee hot all day. It’s so bitterly disappointing to pour a cuppa after a few hours and find it barely tepid. So what a revelation it was to discover the Aladdin Challenger flask, having seen them tested on the Gadget Show. At last it looked like a flask that had the genuine ability to keep your hot drinks hot. Wow, what a novelty!
Still proof is in the pudding as they say. So I purchased the 1.8l version. I often find that I run out of tea or coffee after a few hours when barbel fishing (Blanking does that to you). Not so bad when I’m trotting, because you’re kept busy virtually all of the time. When quiver tipping for chub and roach or barbel fishing you get periods of time when you are waiting eagerly for a bite and that’s when I find my hot drink supply depletes rather quickly.
So my new Aladdin Challenger holds 10 mugs of tea and by that I mean 10 small mugs rather than 10 cups that come with the flask. So that’s a considerable amount of tea. On a recent visit to the Kennet I thought I would put it through its paces. For once I didn’t run out of drink. I had my last cup just before I packed up. It had lasted about 9 hours. I made the tea at around 5am and the tea was still piping hot up until the last cup. The last cup was still hot and I couldn’t have necked it but it had lost some of its heat. So all in all a brilliant flask. It holds plenty of liquid and really does keep it hot all day. I can highly recommend it.

Hi Nathan, always put some hot water in your flask before you fill it, the temperature holds even better then. I use a 1.9l stanley myself, it too is brilliant.

Hi Mick, yep I normally top it up with hot water (although not always boiling water, to be fair) first and if I’m making coffee I’ll use hot milk sometimes too.

Would this work equally well keeping food such as thick soup hot?

I see no reason why not Scott. The opening is not overly large, so filling with soup may be a little tricky but not impossible. I think in the larger sizes it would be suitable.
